Welcome to "Slide Into Summer Fun" Aquatica San Antonio Edition. This is a first of many Waterpark review blogs this summer, where we'll be exploring and experiencing first-hand waterpark resorts around the world. We'll be providing an inside look with photos, video overviews and P.O.V.'s, as well as a full writeup on the great things you want find at a waterpark near you!
With over 16 attractions, including rides, "splashes and waves", as well as animal exhibits, Aquatica San Antonio is a great family-friendly waterpark with tons to experience. Aquatica San Antonio is in the same location as SeaWorld San Antonio and shares a common parking lot and entry area. You could visit both parks in the same day or make a trip of it to visit both parks on different days!
The first thing that caught my attention, as I arrived at Aquatica, was the tropical feel and friendly Australian announcer heard around the park throughout the day. I thoroughly enjoyed the overall theming, attraction variety, animal interactions, park layout and overall cleanliness of the park. Speaking of cleanliness, I have to take a moment and award Aquatica San Antonio with hands down, the cleanest bathrooms I've ever been in at any themepark. They were amazing.
Aquatica's signature attraction is the Stingray Falls raft-style waterslide. This "four-seat raft twists and turns to an underwater grotto, where you come face-to-fin with stingrays and tropical fish" and is boasted as the "only ride of its kind, in the world". It is pretty amazing. I rode it three times! See our overview video for a look at it. Where else can you ride a water slide raft ride and see live animals underwater through a waterfall!? I loved it.
The lazy river, named Loggerhead Lane, travels through 1,200 feet of winding waters enhanced by tunnel jets, foam shooters and misters. You also get to cross under a waterfall into a hidden bird sanctuary with different and unique specific of birds from around the world in Roa's Aviary. This was truly a unique experience to see animals while floating along a slow paced river in a water park. Roa's Aviary also offers a pool area and walking path with a reference guide to learn more about the 40 species of tropical birds.
Aquatica San Antonio also offers a Stingray Encounter that you have to experience to believe. For an extra charge, you can get an up-close-and-personal encounter with Cownose stingrays in an exotic setting where you will have the chance to touch, feed and marvel at these amazing animals! The amazing staff helped when feeding and interacting with the stingrays, they become like pigeons hunting for breadcrumbs, watch out. This friendly creatures have no problem rubbing against your legs and jumping towards you as you enter their habitat up to your chest. This is a must when you visit Aquatica San Antonio. You'll thank me, it's a lot of fun coming face-to-fin with puppy-like sea animals.
While lines were very reasonable during our visit, busy days are guaranteed at any waterpark in the summer. Aquatica San Antonio offers "Quick Queue" to bypass the line and get right on the ride of your choice for an additional fee. This is a great option if you want to spend most of your day in the Lazy River or the Big Surf Shores Wave Pool.
Splash and play as if you’re seaside at Aquatica®. This tropical paradise next to SeaWorld offers water rides from serene to extreme, crashing surf and unforgettable opportunities to meet stingrays, tropical birds and other amazing animals. Soar up a three-story high wall on Walhalla Wave®, or simply relax and soak up the sun on white sand beaches.
To sum up our first Slide Into Summer Fun blog series, Aquatica San Antonio was a great way to start off this summer. What's your favorite attraction? What waterparks are you visiting this summer?
